Overview

This Level I Certified Infrared Thermographer® is an intensive five-day training program designed to equip professionals with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required to perform qualitative thermal imaging and analysis. This course provides a solid foundation in infrared theory, heat transfer concepts, equipment operation, image interpretation, and report generation to support predictive and preventive maintenance (P/PM), condition monitoring, quality assurance, and forensic investigations.

Through a combination of theory, demonstrations, and real-world case studies, participants will learn how to identify, analyze, and document thermal patterns related to electrical, mechanical, and building systems, as well as how to implement effective thermography programs in their organizations.

Infraspection Institute

Infraspection Institute is the oldest independent infrared training and infrared certification firm in the world. Founded in 1980, Infraspection Institute has trained and certified over 10,000 thermographers worldwide. With over 40 years in business, Infraspection Institute literally pioneered the infrared training industry. During our long history, we have shaped the infrared industry through training, technical consulting, technical publications, research, standards development, and software publishing.

Course Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand infrared theory and heat transfer principles relevant to thermal imaging.

  2. Operate and configure infrared cameras for a wide range of industrial and building applications.

  3. Interpret thermal images to identify and diagnose issues caused by improper design, workmanship, or material failure.

  4. Apply infrared thermography techniques to electrical systems, mechanical equipment, refractory systems, steam lines, and building envelopes.

  5. Comply with relevant standards and procedures for infrared inspections and reporting.

  6. Establish and manage a thermography program, including economic justification and data management.

  7. Generate accurate and professional reports using industry-standard reporting tools (e.g., TI Reporter™).

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for professionals involved in inspection, maintenance, and reliability functions across industries such as power generation, petrochemicals, manufacturing, facilities management, and construction.

Recommended participants include:

  • Maintenance & Reliability Engineers

  • Condition Monitoring Technicians

  • Electrical & Mechanical Inspectors

  • Building and Facility Engineers

  • Quality Assurance & Safety Professionals
